Antique Victorian Albert Chain Necklace 18ct Gold Sterling Silver Dated 1886

A grand Antique Victorian Albert chain from the late 19^th Century made up of solid Sterling Silver curb links which have been gilded in a bright 18ct Yellow Gold. It’s complete with a T-Bar and an extension of chain at the bottom where a medallion may have been attached.

Albert chains were named after Prince Albert and were used by wealthy Victorian gentlemen to secure a pocket watch by attaching it via the T-bar to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today though, they have taken on a new function and commonly worn as a women’s statement necklace.   

It’s a good solid chain and weighs 106.4 grams in total. It’s fitted with two claw clasps at the end and is complete with the maker’s initials and hallmarks dating it to 1886.
