Antique Edwardian Albert Chain With French Coin Medallion Silver 18ct Gold Gilt Dated 1919

A grand antique Albert chain hallmarked and dated Birmingham, 1919. The exquisite chain consists of solid sterling silver curb links which are each stamped with a “Sterling” lion passant hallmark and gilded in 18ct yellow gold.

Albert chains were named after Prince Albert and were originally used by wealthy Victorian gentlemen to secure a pocket watch by attaching it via the T-bar to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. They later became a popular accessory for women as well and converted into beautiful necklaces and bracelets.     

The chain is fitted with the classic double claw clasp and T-bar which is accompanied by a gold French Napoleon III coin. It’s been preserved from the 1800s and though the images have faded over time it’s an original addition to the chain that has accompanied it faithfully throughout the decades.
