VICTORIAN SUFFRAGETTE COLLAR AND DETACHABLE CROSS PENDANT CIRCA 1880
This fabulous Sterling Silver Suffragette genuine collar and cross pendant is all original.
The cross detaches to reveal a wonderful collar that is set with old cut Paste stones.
This Sterling Silver collar and cross is set with white green and pink Paste stones that represent the Suffragette movement.
Paste is a heavy, very transparent flint glass that stimulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones because it has relatively high indices of refraction and strong dispersion, the Romans in particular were very skilful in the production of coloured glass pastes.
Suffragettes liked to be depicted as feminine. Their jewellery was chosen to counter the stereotypes put forward by opponents that they were mannish or shrieking!
