ANTIQUE VICTORIAN EMERALD DIAMOND LIZARD BROOCH 9CT GOLD SILVER CIRCA 1900
A wonderful antique Lizard brooch C. 1900, adorned with a beautiful green stripe of Emeralds down the back, with Diamond encrusted legs and red Ruby eyes.
Victorian jewellery mirrored Queen Victoria’s life with the ‘Romantic’ period producing decorative animal, bird and lizard pieces, symbolising the monarch’s sentimental side.
The largest Emerald is 0.23ct and graduate in size to smaller 0.02ct Emeralds at the tail.
Emerald is the sacred stone of the goddess Venus, It was thought to preserve love and has long been the symbol of hope.
Set in Silver and backed in 9ct Yellow Gold.
The piece is also stamped with makers marks on the pin catch which may be French.
A highly collectable antique and a great talking piece.
