This stunning antique Victorian Old Cut Paste crescent brooch is hallmarked London 1898.
A beautiful double row of graduated Paste stones chase around the crescent moon.
Paste is a heavy, very transparent flint glass that stimulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones because it has relatively high indices of refraction and strong dispersion, the Romans in particular were very skilful in the production of coloured glass pastes.
The lovely Old Cut Stones are beautifully set, all hand set from the Victorian Era
Crescents and Stars became popular during the 18th century with an increased interest in the science of astronomy, and its popularity flourished in the 19th century.
Its very rare to find a brooch that is actually hallmarked.
