ANTIQUE VICTORIAN MOONSTONE DIAMOND HALLEYS COMET BROOCH 18CT GOLD CIRCA 1900
A spectacular antique Victorian brooch depicting the elusive Halley’s comet flying through a crescent Moon. Celestial images became popular during the late 19th Century as an interest in astronomy grew. Halley’s comet was particularly special, first sighted in 1835 swooping across the sky with a long tail of fire which inspired these wonderful pieces. The entire brooch is decorated with Diamonds, approx. 1ct in total with three lovely Moonstones lining the comet. The Moonstones have a lovely ghostly hue and a luminous surface similar to that of Moonlight. They are said to be a magical stone providing a channel for prophecy, and a path to wisdom. The piece is set in 18ct Yellow/ White Gold and fitted with two Golden pins on the reverse. A rare antique find and highly collectable.
