This fabulous French antique Victorian long chain is set with lovely fancy panels and links. Circa 1900
Set in 18ct Yellow Gold on Silver.
The lovely long chain can be worn at least twice around the neck or left as a long chain or muff chain.
Necklaces like this are called Sautoir, this means a very long necklace which is often made of beads, pearls or chains. Sautoir is a French term meaning jump rope.
Muff chains were created to string through a muff of fur which kept a woman’s hands warm when she was outside, and held it when she was inside.
The c catch is added so you can add a muff or even a pendant when placed around the neck twice, creating a lovely necklace.
Each panel is beautifully set with swirl detailing.
Steeped in Victorian history, this chain is a wonderful piece.
