ANTIQUE VICTORIAN FORGET ME NOT LOCKET STERLING SILVER CIRCA 1880
An exquisite Antique late Victorian Sterling Silver locket made Circa 1880. The wonderful piece features a beautiful decorative strip across the front and an engraved emblem on the reverse.
Forget me nots are also etched across the front and carry a long-lasting symbolism of love and remembrance which is why they were popularly featured on lockets containing images of loved ones, some of whom may have passed.
The locket contains its original rims and windows within and currently houses two extraordinary hand-coloured photographs of a finely dressed gentleman and lady who were most likely husband and wife and beloved family members to a previous owner.
Hand-coloured photographs became popular during the Victorian era and were often hand-coloured with paints, oils and water colours to enhance black and white photographs to make them more vivid and life-like.
A fascinating Antique find and beautifully preserved. It would make a wonderful gift for a loved one.
