Antique Victorian Floral Locket Sterling Silver

An exquisite antique late Victorian sterling silver locket featuring a decorative strip across the front with chased flowers and leaves behind and an engraved emblem on the reverse.

The locket contains its original rims and windows within and currently houses two extraordinary hand-coloured photographs of a finely dressed gentleman and a lady who were most likely husband and wife and beloved family members to a previous owner.

Hand-coloured photographs became popular during the Victorian era and were often hand-coloured with paints, oils and water colours to enhance black and white photographs to make them more vivid and life-like.

It’s a fascinating antique find and beautifully preserved.
