Vintage Sterling Silver Red Enamel Paste Collar Dated London 1956

A spectacular mid 20^th Century collar made in London in 1956. The extravagant piece is made up of ornate, open-work sterling silver links and droppers decorated with glistening pastes and three beautiful, red guilloche enamel domes topped with further pastes.

Guilloche enamel dates to the 17^th century and became increasingly popular in the Victorian era. The process involves metal carefully worked by a lathe, or “Rose Machine” into a decorative pattern and overlaid with a colourful enamel to create a striking and highly detailed work of art.

The piece has remained in excellent condition and is fully hallmarked on the back. It’s fitted with a hook clasp and safety chain which holds it securely around the neck.
