ANTIQUE GEORGIAN MOURNING BROOCH FLAT CUT GARNET PEARL 18CT GOLD CIRCA 1800
This wonderful antique Garnet and Pearl Mourning brooch is a genuine Georgian piece, Circa 1800.
The brooch is decorated in ten fabulous flat cut Garnets with a halo of Pearls surrounding the central display window containing lovely plaited hair.
Mourning jewellery mirrored the lives and times of the people who wore it. It was a souvenir to remember a loved one or a reminder to the living of the inevitability of death.
The Garnet has been adored throughout history for it’s blazing red colour which hides beneath it’s dark surface. It is said to be a stone of purity, truth and a symbol of love and compassion.
The back of the brooch is 18ct Yellow Gold closed back which is typical of this period.
The pin has been replaced over the years though this is minimal wear for such an old brooch.
A truly beautiful antique piece thats steeped in Georgian history!
