ANTIQUE GEORGIAN GOLD SHAKESPEARE SEAL FOB CIRCA 1780
This wonderful Antique Georgian 18ct Gold Shakespeare seal fob is Circa 1780.
Due to its age, Georgian jewellery is quite rare, with some pieces almost three hundred years old. From 1714 until 1837 four King Georges and a short-lived William gave rise to this extended period, spanning many fashions that are reflected in these stunning pieces of Georgian jewellery.
The piece is set with a red hand carved Carnelian seal depicting the side profile of famous English writer and Poet William Shakespeare.
Fobs and seals were a decorative accessory in the late 18th century and were sometimes worn as a status symbol. The seal was used to stamp a person's signature or perhaps a sentimental message or image in sealing wax on important documents.
All set in 18ct Yellow Gold displaying detailed floral engravings throughout.
The piece has come away slightly around the Gold loop but this is minimum wear for such an old piece.
The fob is steeped in Georgian history and is a rare collectable find that deserves to be treasured.
