ANTIQUE VICTORIAN CHRYSOPRASE BEADED NECKLACE DRAGON CLASP CIRCA 1900
This magnificent long antique Beaded Chrysoprase necklace is from the Victorian era, Circa 1900.
The lovely necklace features lovely apple green Chrysoprase beads which alternate in size with larger engraved beads decorated throughout.
Chrysoprase is a beautiful pale green gemstone that is said to bring joy and happiness to the wearer and was considered a favourite of Alexander the Great.
The clasp is truly special and depicts a beautiful hand carved Dragon head with horns and a scaly neck.
Dragons and Serpent jewellery became popular during the early years of Queen Victoria’s reign coinciding with the full flowering of the Romantic Movement. Dragons have long been seen as a powerful image in ancient cultures and represent wisdom, divinity and the primal forces of nature.
There is slight wear on one of the dragons horns but this is minimal considering its age.
This is a truly spectacular antique necklace, beautifully made and stunning to behold!
